The Stove x The Microwave: Great reading from Lean Enterprise Institute. Jidoka is a powerful principle and separating human work from machine is key part of it. When cooking on a stove, constant attention is required, whereas with a microwave, you can start the process and move on to other tasks until it signals completion. This analogy highlights the potential for efficiency improvements in various operations, not just in manufacturing but across entire processes. It's a powerful reminder of how often workers have to press a button to activate a machine but still need to be present to monitor or assist. I was given an opportunity to be the Lean "Sensei" at a Kaizen Boot camp event at Mammotome Tijuana, Mexico plant this past week, along with Nathan Leibowitz . Now, I do not believe I have earned the right to be addressed as Sensei yet, but that is a topic for another day. After years of hosting such events at sites I support, receiving feedback from the Japanese Shingijutsu Sensei's to incorporate, I always wondered what it would feel like to play the role of "sensei" or the one teaching the teams to see and challenge them beyond their comfort zones. The process of guiding a team through continuous improvement not only reinforced my knowledge but also highlighted the power of collaboration and innovation. Witnessing the team's dedication and seeing the tangible results of our efforts was truly inspiring. 💡 Here are a few key takeaways: 1. **Empowerment Through Knowledge**: Sharing insights and seeing others grow in their understanding of Lean principles was immensely rewarding. 2. **Collaboration is Key**: The synergy created when diverse minds come together to solve problems is unmatched. 3. **Continuous Improvement**: Every small step towards efficiency adds up to significant gains over time.
